Hosting a silent disco is one of the most fun events you can plan, but like any event, a little preparation goes a long way. Because the technology is different from a standard party, the planning process looks slightly different, too.

To help you pull off the perfect quiet rave, we have put together the ultimate Silent Disco Host Checklist.

It's much easier than you think! Follow these steps, and you will go from "idea" to "unforgettable night" without the stress.

Phase 1: The Planning (4+ Weeks Out)

[ ] Choose Your Venue Since noise isn't an issue, you can get creative.

  • Ideas: Backyard, rooftop, basement, beach, or even a local library or museum after hours.
  • Check: Does the venue have power outlets? If not, you will need a portable power bank for the transmitters.

[ ] Determine Your Guest Count This is crucial for your rental order.

  • Tip: Always aim high. If you invite 50 people, order 55 or 60 headphones. You never want to run out.

[ ] Book Your Equipment This is the most important step!

  • Action: Go to se2.events and reserve your Rental date. Silent Disco gear sells quickly during peak seasons (summer and holidays), so book early to secure your headphones.

Phase 2: The Music (2 Weeks Out)

[ ] Decide: DJ vs. Playlist Are you hiring 3 DJs to battle it out, or are you curating Apple Music or Spotify playlists?

  • If DJs: Confirm they know they need to plug into your transmitters (RCA or Aux output).
  • If Playlists: Start building them now. You need 3 distinct vibes (e.g., Blue: Pop, Red: Throwbacks, Green: Hip Hop). Also - be sure they are ad-free accounts for your attendees!

[ ] Download Your Music

  • Critical Step: Do not rely on venue Wi-Fi! If the internet goes down, the music stops. Download your playlists to your device for "Offline Mode" to be safe.

Phase 3: The Logistics (1 Week Out)

[ ] Assign a "Headphone Manager" Who is handing out the headphones?

  • Tip: For larger parties, you don't want guests walking off with your rented gear. Designate a friend (or hire a staff member) to trade headphones for an ID or car keys as collateral.

[ ] Plan the Lighting Silent Discos look best in the dark because of the LED headphones.

  • To Do: Turn off overhead lights. Rent or buy some cheap blacklights, lasers, or string lights to set the mood.

Phase 4: The Day of the Event

[ ] Charge Your Devices Make sure your laptops, phones, or tablets are at 100% battery. Keep chargers nearby.

[ ] The Setup (30 Minutes Before)

  1. Plug in the 3 Transmitters to power.
  2. Connect your music sources to the Transmitters.
  3. Set each Transmitter to a different channel (1, 2, and 3).
  4. Test: Put on a pair of headphones to do a volume check and flip through all 3 channels to ensure audio is playing on all of them

[ ] The "Instruction" Sign Place a small sign at the entrance that says:

"Grab a pair of headphones! Use the switch on the side to change channels and find your vibe. Adjust your volume on the dial of the other headphone."

Phase 5: After the Party

[ ] The Collection As guests leave, make sure you collect every pair of headphones. Count them before you go to sleep!

[ ] Pack and Ship Place the headphones and transmitters back in the SE2 Silent Disco cases. Use the included return label to ship them back the next business day (if you had them shipped to you). If you're local to Buffalo we do FREE delivery and pickup!
